I seems to be having problems setting up a triple monitor setup let alone 5 monitors.
GPU
1 x XFX Radeon HD6990 , 1 x radeon XFX HD6950 (6970Bios)
Monitors
2x Dell 3007WFP one is HFC
1x Samsung XL30
2x Dell 2001FP
I have been trying to use the apple dual DVI to mini displayport active adapters which have been known to have it's own issues(looking to get it updated to firmware 1.03) the adapters were connected to a powered USB adapter so they should be getting consistent voltage.
Every time I connect the third monitor the 1st monitor connected to the mini displayport goes to a black screen. Another problem is the sometimes the main screen connected to the DVI displays a distorted picture until a displayport monitor is added then picture is fine. I have been using the latest driver from AMD and also tried the beta drivers. This happens on the 6990 and the 6950 separately too. Has anyone else experienced these problems? I have an MSI HD7990 in the pipeline.
other kit:-
Case
Antec P190 dual power supply that came with it. I have several other PSU's to try if anyone thinks it may be a power issue.
Motherboard
ASUS Sabertooth Z77 TUF
HDD
256GB Samsung pro 840
PSU i7 38770K with corsair H110 cooler
OS
Windows 7 64bit

So, how exactly did you connect these 3 monitors? 2x via Dp-DVI adapters and one via Dp direct?

Hi thanks for the reply :onethumb: I connected two via dp adapter to dual DVI and and one directly to dual DVI. These are old 30 inch monitors and only have DVI connections. I've read somewhere about dp ports cutting off the DVI on the HD6990. I just ordered the CLUB 3d hub thing maybe that will help. I may have to trade in and buy some newer monitors that have displayport, all these adapters are doing my head in :crazy:

I just purchased an HD7990 and HD7970 :-)

:welcome

In your hoard of adapters, are any of them active dual link adapters ?
Often the displayport to dual-link dvi active adapters need additional power via USB and are more expensive at around ~£80-100 instead of the ~£15-£30 for the single link active adapters.

Something like this.. http://uk.startech.com/AV/Displayport-C ... d~MDP2DVID

you will likely want to setup like this...

[ GPU1 ] Mini-DP ==>> DVI(Active dual-link adapter) ==>> [ Mon1 ]
[ GPU1 ] Mini-DP ==>> DVI(Active dual-link adapter) ==>> [ Mon2 ] **
[ GPU1 ] DVI ==>> [ Mon3 ]

** you could use a passive adapter here, you may even have one already?
An active adapter would be recommended.

yes Delphinium the apple adapters are Active, however when I add the 3rd adapter and monitor the 2nd one goes off (i.e. enters sleep mode) The MST hub doesn't seem to be working either. I'm going to try the Bizlink XT25 adapters.

Could you please link to the apple adapters that you are having issues with?

The adapters are these ones from Apple http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-adapter they seem to have a know problem unless the firmware is 1.03 see posts here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3232
I have managed to get some semblance of a working system by connecting two active adapters ( Bizlink XT25) to the Club 3D MST hub and the other too the dual DVI on the GPU. This is not how it's suppsed to work :crazy:

well I have since discerned that the apple adapters are indeed firmware 1.03 so it's not that. To be fair I have found the 3D club is useful for spreading my laptop view across 3 screens, so not an entirely wasteful spend. The Bizlink and Accell adapters work as they should and seem high quality, not sure about this eye infinity malarkey but I'll work on it. I have two smaller 1660x1200 monitors in portrait on the side but they are quite far away and don't really make that much difference ...looks good though. pics as soon as I clear the debris of my desk....more of the chaos than order school me.
