Hello,

I was told by a friend that he has had a bunch of his friends use Eyefinity and that their AMD cards burnt out because of it. Is this a common thing ? Or are they simply part of the group of individuals who forget to clean out their computers and let the dust fry their parts?

That's absolute bullcrap. They might have burned out but you can be sure it wasn't from using Eyefinity. How does that even make sense?

Eyefinity requires addtional horsepower and thus strain on the card as its powering 3x more than normally would, however the cards are designed for doing such tasks.

I am currently on my 3rd AMD eyefinity card, none of them have had any issues, both my 5870E6 cards which I got fairly early on from when eyefinity was around and they both still work perfectly fine.

I had run 1 of my 5870 cards well overclocked from stock speeds for over 2 years without any adverse effects, however my card was watercooled too.

I would be inclined to think that those that had cards burn out or die on them could be due to...
A) Lack of space inside the case and insufficient airflow around the case and card.
B) Lots of airflow around the case, but quite dusty, not cleaning dust out can of cause impact cooling performance too.
C) Over-clocking the cards to high.
D) Poor Quality PSU.
E) Combination of the above.

As such, Eyefinity does not cause cards to burn out, however not looking after hardware can.
Also with the 10k members we have here at WSGF, I dont think any of our members have managed to burn their cards out simply by using eyefinity, dead AMD cards is not something we see frequently in these parts.

Sweet that was the type of response I was hoping for. It looks like I will be going with Eyefinity to get to the correct resolution that my monitors can handle. Thanks for the detailed response Delphium. I am glad to hear it is a rumour after all.

Anyone have a suggestion on the least problematic Active Dvi to Mini display port adapter?
