In that case, a thousand apologies to you, good sir. I shall now take your script and for the first time in a long time be able to check hud elements without self inducing whiplash.

Many thanks indeed.

Hey Delph,
me again ;o)

Tried the script for 4800x1200 and all I get is the right side of the hud crammed into the top left of the screen and nothing else. Hex edited pak01_dir.vpk and changed scripts.hudlayout to scripts.mudlayout and put your generated script into the scripts folder but no dice.

I've had a look and believe I've done everything required but the result's fubar.

Any suggestions???

4 methods
alt+print screen buttons on keyboard,
use fraps,
or just the print screen button if using softth.
or even camera?

do any of the pre made huds work ok for you ? you should be able to use the 4:3 ratio based fix.

Where can I find the pre-made huds?

I tried using your 5760x1080 file, and got the same result where everything was bunched up in the top left. I think I am also using that crosshair mod that was released earlier.

Im running 57x12.

Do I just replace the dir.cpk or w/e?

Check either of the TF2 or L4D2 threads for some of the pre made huds available.

L4D2 requires you replace the .vpk file to force the game to use the custom hudlayout.res file in your scripts folder.

Also try using the 48:10 ratio 5040x1050/5760x1200 mod instead of the 48:9 5760x1080 mod.

Thanks for the kind words, and oh this project is very much still in progress, I have been quietly working on how to manage the content of the various .res config files, as it was getting hard to manage all the various configs and incrementative code for the values that need changing, so I have recently made some great improvements and hope to have something to present to you folks in the coming weeks.

Ok, I have spent time learning php and regex in the last few weeks, and have been able to produce a system that allows users to upload any .res file from any of the source engine games or mods.

Once the user uploads the .res file, it filters the files for section names and xpos values, which is then presented to the user like thus...

The user can manually select which items are to be adjusted which is then highlighted in green.
The next step is to take the sections that have been ticked and increment them with the values worked out in my calculator and then provide a file for download back to the user. :)

The project might be coming on slowly (mainly due to me having to learning a number of lanuages that ive never ever touched since late January 2010), but its not forgotten :)

Update:

I have now completed the HUD editor and just require a few tweaks in order to marry it up with my calc to conduct the maths to work out how much to shift HUD items by, at the momment I am using a static value of 444 which will change to a variable soon.

Here the user can upload any .res file from any source engine game.

The editor scans the file for all the xpos values and their relevent sections (fieldName's).
Here you can manually select which items you may like to adjust, or simply apply a preset of selected items from the menu, in this case I am using the hudlayout.res file from L4D2. You may also notice that the page states that the HUD will be incremented by 444, this figure will change once I have finished tweaking this to marry it up to the calc, which will in turn define this value after the user enters details into the calc.

Once the items are selected, they are passed to the next page which then scans the file again and edits the selected items by incrementing them by the current test value of 444.

Clicking download presents a "save as" dialog box :)

Essentially the main aim of this tool was to remove all the donkey work of opening up .res files and manually finding and incrementing each of the xpos values, and as such will hopefully make editing of any .res files a lot less time consuming.
One of the added bosnuses is that even .res files from mods are supported although without any selection presets (least at present), for anyone that wishes to use thier fav HUD mod on a multi screen setup :D

EDIT: might help if I provide a link to it eh :P http://indy.unmake.net/~wut/php/fovcalc.php
This is a tempory home for this project untill I finish updating the calc in which this will likely all be hosted and embbed into WSGF tools.

The tool is now live and embeded into the FOV calc.
At present I have added the following selection presets...

L4D1:
BaseChat.res
HudLayout.res

L4D2:
BaseChat.res
HudLayout.res
ScoreBoard.res

TF2:
HudLayout.res
HudItemEffectMeter.res

with more to come in time.
