OK, I'm playing L4D with 2 monitors as one big extended display. My question is, how can I make it think I have 3 connected? I want it so that I have my main display, and then my second on the right is just my view to the right, but my crosshairs are still centered on the main screen. So I was thinking can't I just fake a third monitor to my left? I have an HD5770 if it makes a difference.

I guess what I really want is a software solution (I'm pretty handy with electronics, so I guess I could rig up one of those dummy VGA things with some resistors if I absolutely had to) that will allow me to up my resolution but only display part of it.

Thank you for your time and help :)

This is not exactly what you're asking for, but a simple workaround would be to run the game windowed at a "fake" triple-screen resolution, then move the window to the right... :hide

Google "dummy plug". A lot of Folding at Home users build them because FAH is quirky about detecting GPUs not plugged into a display.

that's exactly what I want to do, but I couldn't figure out how to do it in l4d or battlefield bad company 2

as for the dummy plug, I haven't been able to find a way to build one for the displayview port thing on an hd5xxx card.

That's a pretty sweet idea, might I recommend you fake your right-most monitor though since the in-game menus are all left-anchored, in-game chat is left anchored, scores is, etc. And you should use a center HUD whenever possible too, or the HUD on the right side will disappear.

I suppose you could be the first one to try to use the dummy plug method on a DP-to-VGA active adator.

I'd try the dummy plug on a DP->VGA adapter then use Powerstrip or some other tool to try to force an EDID profile onto it?
