I was thinking about buying a 32" sony bravia HDTV for a monitor, but it seems the general consensus is that pc monitors are better. What would be a good monitor 26" or above that would be better than an HDTV? Has the quality of TN panels improved? I can't imagine a TN panel being better than HDTVs, so I probably don't want that. My budget is about $600 (since that's how much a 32" hdtv would cost), but I'm looking for the best bang for buck. It will be used for movies and gaming.

A pc monitor with that size and not having a TN panel will cost much more than $600. Only the TN ones cost below that.

Dell U2711 27 Inch IPS - $1000
Asus 27 Inch TN - $400
I-Inc 27.5 Inch TN - $300 (This I currently use)

I find that 32" HDTV's that are Natively 1080p are actually quite good as monitors.

If you can find that Dell on Ebay or Craigslist (which is possible) I would definitely pull the trigger and get that one.

I have a 2x22 ST2210's by dell at work, nice screens....but for home I wouldn't recommend them, IPS panels are a lot nicer to the eyes. I'd go for the dell, otherwise you might get buyers remorse.
