I know its too soon to tell, but I'm almost dead certain that my surprisingly resilient 5870 will not able to run that at good settings on 57x12. I dont need to completely pimped out, and I dont mind AA/AF as much as shader quality and such. Will ATI release a new line of cards soon that allows a single-card setup to compete? The 6870 has been out for awhile, but that isnt really much of a performance bump.

I didn't get a chance to try the Alphafor BC3, but BC2 is certainly helped more by a beefy CPU rather than a beefy GPU. Upgrading my GPU did little for my frameraates, but going from one Quad to another made a tremendous difference. I suspect it will be teh same for BC3. What is your CPU?

FYI:
Code:
Minimum requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
   Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
   RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card.
   Graphics card memory: 512 MB
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
Recommended system requirements for Battlefield 3
   OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
   RAM: 4GB
Graphics card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, GeForce GTX 460, Radeon Radeon HD 6850
   Graphics card memory: 1 GB
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

Nothing concrete on release with the 7xxx's. If you only need it for BF3, wait until you get the game! Hopefully more info will be available by then. The cards however, are overdue based on ATIs historical release schedule.
If nothing new surfaces by the time BF3 comes out, I would recommend a pair of 6970's at around $370 AUD per. Or a single if you're fiscally challenged. The game will be hardcore- large draw distances, foliage, 64 players, physics, destruction etc, it's all next gen.
That's my two cents.

I'd be more inclined to say you also need to OC that to 3.5ghz+ if possible.
I saw more a massive improvement going from a q9300 @ 3.4 to a 2600k @ 4.5. Than just going from a 5870 to 2x6970's.

But GPU wise ideally you'd want a 6970 minimum. A 5870 won't cut it at any decent settings.

Has it been confirmed how many cores the game will utilize?
