Ok, maybe some of you already knew my problem with my winning prize, I mean HD6970. I didn't talk about it at WSGF yet. I thought it might be helpfull to you.

My card didn't work with any catalyst drivers installed. After log on screen in Windows 7 (64bit), the screen goes blank then appears (or not) again, mouse pointer is four times bigger and has a lag, until everything crash. There was no problem in Windows Safe Mode or with standard vga driver installed. I went through many topics at AMD and at guru3d forum and a few local forums, I was in contact with HIS support and no one could help me. I checked every output port in my card with no success but there was one important information - the card was working in linux so I thought it might be Windows 7 or catalyst's issue. I already RMA my card but suddenly I found a solution. I wouldn't thought it is so simple...

Here's the solution:
1. Go to Control Panel
2. Go to Power Options
3. Click Change Plan Settings
4. Click Change Advanced Power Plan Settings
5. Go to PCI Express and change from Moderate Power Savings to Off and voila, problem solved!

I have a Catalyst 11.6 drivers installed now and everything works fine :) Now I can only wait for my Dirt 3 steam key :P

Hm. I didn't know 7 could manage PCI-E power. I've only accessed it through my laptop.

Nice to see someone saying "voila" instead of the ever-lame "walla". That annoys me more than it should.

What power profile did you have selected? I have high performance and the power management on PCI-e is already turned off. This is a great find, and I'm sorry for all your heartache.

Wonder if that would fix some of the active DP adaptor issues too?

I have "Balanced (recommended)" selected.

This is not meant sarcastically, but why would you ever have that setting on a desktop? I've only ever used that setting on a notebook.

Because it is default setting in Win7 and I didn't have to change it before ;)
