Hi jonathan,

I'll try reconnecting my monitor using the vga cable, but with the DVI adapter so it connects to my video card's dvi port, and see what happens..

I'll try to do it today..

Hi JP..

Bad news.. while testing it, I think I blew my video card..

Haha.. ok, nothing so drastic, but using a VGA-DVI adapter doesn't fool the computer.. it detects it as a VGA connection, and as such, it doesn't give you the ratio centering/scaling options in the driver.

Do yourself a huge favor and splurge on a monitor with a DVI connection.. you'll be safest that way if you want to play older games that don't support widescreen (or new games, if they're from EA and called NHL06!)..

Good luck!
elp... :P

(I've been using this name on various forums for years.. it makes me laugh too.. haha. :))

Oh well, puts paid to that idea then!!! But i think that what with Acer and some companies putting out competitively priced WS moitors, that sooner or later someon will do a cheapish DVI one.

I guess it gives me time to save for that GPU i want instead!!! But mark my words - will be back on this forum again sometime!!! Hopefully soon - thanks for the help though!

Not a fix for ATi cards, but it does prove that some have Fixed Aspect Scaling...

Has anyone tried this with the mobility 9700??

I have a mobility 9700, and with ATI Tray Tools the centered timings work perfectly, black bars, no stretch.

My conclusions on fixed scaling on ATI are available on the thread Paradigm Shifter mentioned

nVidia have changed the location of the control since the driver version I'm using on my 6800GT, but it should be in one of the menu's of the 'advanced' section. :) They include it by default, rather than by luck.

This?

Nvidia changed the location of that tab in newer versions. I don´t remember exact wich version but you can now find it by:

Go to the regular nvidia settings box/window and choose nView Display Settings and then click the Device Settings >> button and choose Device Adjustments and there you will find the Digital Flat Panel Settings.
