The game is a semi-realistic combat sim made around 2002. I think it uses DX6.
Resolution options only go up to 1024x768 (if you're lucky - for half the people I know it crashes when they choose that). Naturally it's 4:3 only.

Anyone have a method to enable widescreen resolutions?

Oh and here are some screenshots to demonstrate the results.

800x600 (4:3)

1280x720 (16:9)

1280x960 (4:3)

I tried fixing the demo and was able to have some success, but widescreen resolutions were Vert-, which sucks. Higher 4:3 resolutions looked fine (I tried 1280x960) but unfortunately crashed the game when selecting the [F1] viewpoint (cockpit). Here are the strings I changed in case somebody wants to try it out in the full version. Using a hex editor like Be.HexEditor or XVI32, change 20 03 and 58 02 (the hex strings for 800x600) to the corresponding hex strings for the resolution you want to try. When you're done, save the file and make sure to select 800x600 in the options menu for the game (this probably only affects Direct3D).
800x600 - 20 03 x 58 02
1152x864 - 80 04 x 60 03
1280x720 - 00 05 x D0 02
1280x768 - 00 05 x 00 03
1280x800 - 00 05 x 20 03
1280x960 - 00 05 x C0 03
1280x1024 - 00 05 x 00 04
1366x768 - 56 05 x 00 03
1440x480 - A0 05 x E0 01
1440x900 - A0 05 x 84 03
1600x900 - 40 06 x 84 03
1600x1200 - 40 06 x B0 04
1650x1080 - 72 06 x 38 04
1920x1080 - 80 07 x 38 04
1920x1200 - 80 07 x B0 04
20 03 00 00 c7 05 d8 0e 59 00 58 02 - Change all instances of this string (there are 3 in the demo executable I believe).

58 02 00 00 68 20 03 - Change all instances of this string (there are 12 or 13 in the demo executable I believe).

20 03 00 00 c7 05 ec 86 62 00 58 02 - Only one of these in the demo executable.

20 03 00 00 75 07 b8 e0 86 - Only one of these in the demo executable.

20 03 00 00 75 0f c7 05 04 69 - Only one of these in the demo executable.

Those last two are curious because they were in the vicinity of the other horizontal resolution strings (80 02 for 640 and 00 04 for 1024) which led me to believe that there would also be similar strings for the corresponding vertical resolutions, but I wasn't able to find anything. It's entirely possible that these correspond to the way the F-22 configuration file selects the resolution the game will use (you'll see that in the config file they just list "1024" for 1024x768 and so on). So it's probably not something I'm missing. But then again, maybe it is.

Also, F-22 uses a sprite based cockpit (as opposed to one that's rendered 3D) so it will have a fixed size (one for each of the default resolutions I'm sure). This is probably why the game crashes when switching to that viewpoint while using a custom resolution. Even if it didn't crash, I highly doubt it would scale properly. Making a custom, higher resolution cockpit could potentially solve that problem. I don't know how into modding the game the F-22 Lightning community is, though, so I don't know if that's even in the cards.

Sorry I couldn't give you better news. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
