The FFVII re-release is not much. Looks like you need to be online.

You can select higher resolutions in-game but they are basically the same as the mods available. However, FFVII actually has an aspect ratio wider than 4:3. The original release has a black bar at the bottom. This bar is still present even if you have it stretch to wider aspect ratios or pillarbox to 4:3.

Stick to mods.
