A forum member did make a 'starter' file that enabled widescreen a while back, but when both Paddy the Wak and I tested it at a later date, it wouldn't even let the game load. It might be because of the differences between the EU and US versions, but I don't know...

Hello ...
Yeah the starter file didn't work ... :(
I did get it to run at a widescreen resolution... but ... the FOV is too zoomed and I found it unplayable like that.

I could not find any way to change the FOV... :(

It was a while back but I think this is what I did to change to a widescreen resolution ... find the ... user.ini
Here ...
C:Documents and SettingsYour NameMy DocumentsDeus Ex - Invisible War

Open it with Note Pad ... right at the bottom there are the selected resolutions ... just change them to your desired widescreen resolution and save.

Ion Storm played with the FOV to get the HUD further out to the edges - apparently, in v1.0 (US release), the HUD was too close to the middle of the screen, and most people didn't like that. Their solution? Shink the FOV so you can see less of the game world - but it does move the HUD closer to the edge... :roll:

C:Program FilesDeus Ex - Invisible WarSystem

DEFAULT.ini Configuration Settings Foler 46KB

dx2
AmbientColor_R__d=32
AmbientColor_G__d=32
AmbientColor_B__d=32
;AmbientColor_R__d=0
;AmbientColor_G__d=255
;AmbientColor_B__d=0
FOV__d=67
AssumedUIScreenWidth__d=640
AssumedUIScreenHeight__d=480

(NOTE: FOV_d= should be somewhere between 50 to 67
BUT screen res may not be taking???)

I tried 50 not bad not perfect

FOV__d=50
AssumedUIScreenWidth__d=1920
AssumedUIScreenHeight__d=1200

Also there is a User.ini file in that main folder

TRY

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
StartupFullscreen=False

[Blockloading]
LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
FullscreenViewportX=1920
FullscreenViewportY=1200

EDIT: I just saw a master link on this site at
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/masterlist.php

that indicates Deus Ex 2: Invisible War
Hack
Vert -
Requires 3rd Party App

But I don't know what those mean??

Ahhhh, good old Deus Ex. Would guys believe that I actually reviewed this game when it came out, and the game's director emailed me about 2 days after the review was posted? Hehe, he didn't quite like some of my comments about its early bugged-out state, but was a decent fellow overall. :)

Hack indicates that a hack is needed, as against native support. 'Vert -' means that it chops off the top and bottom rather than expanding the sides; '3rd party app' means that you need to run another little program to get it to actually do widescreen. However, testing out the 3rd party app later, it didn't work on the European version.

Stretch,

Europe's version of DX:IW was 'prepatched' to 1.2, so we missed out on a lot of the really painful bugs. ;) But even that wasn't exactly a great performer. The first Deus Ex was superb - Invisible War was far too obviously designed almost completely for XBox... :(

I was looking over this post here

& I know there is data on the game list here at http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/masterlist.php & it says

Deus Ex 2: Invisible War Hack = Vert - Requires 3rd Party App

However,

WITH USA VERSION OF THE GAME I tried the following: as I found 2 files where the res is found & the one with the FoV & it also has another place to change the screen res as well.

PART I

C:Program FilesDeus Ex - Invisible WarSystem

DEFAULT.ini Configuration Settings Fodler 46KB

dx2
AmbientColor_R__d=32
AmbientColor_G__d=32
AmbientColor_B__d=32
;AmbientColor_R__d=0
;AmbientColor_G__d=255
;AmbientColor_B__d=0
FOV__d=67
AssumedUIScreenWidth__d=640
AssumedUIScreenHeight__d=480

(NOTE: FOV_d= should be somewhere between 50 to 67
BUT screen res may not be taking???)

I tried 50 not bad not perfect I am still experimenting with it as I creep back closer to 67 the default.

My changes so far

FOV__d=50
AssumedUIScreenWidth__d=1920
AssumedUIScreenHeight__d=1200

PART II

Also there is a User.ini file in that main folder

TRY

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
StartupFullscreen=False

[Blockloading]
LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
FullscreenViewportX=1920
FullscreenViewportY=1200

QUESTION

Is this getting close to solving the issue to make it acceptable WS ??

This actually works!

But PART II needs some adjustments: the user.ini is located in "my files", subfolder "Deus Ex - Invisible War" (might be hidden, check out the folder options).

It is sufficient to adjust the viewport values in this .ini only.

Thanks for the hint so far!
