Widescreen Grade: C
Ultra-Widescreen Grade: C
Multi-monitor Grade: C
4k Grade: Incomplete

Read Full Detailed Report - FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage

FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage is a cheap console port where wrecking cars and causing mayhem is the aim. The developers made no effort to support widescreen or multi-monitor whatsoever.

It's burnout without the insane speed and with more debris flying around the place.

4:3

16:10

16:9

21:9

I'd call the menu icons stretching a minor singleplayer anomaly.

Grade: C+, coverage is 100%, vert - is a consequential flaw.

I'm running three 27.5" monitors at 1440x900 (best I can get with ATI  ) and the cars are short and fat. I've tried setting aspect ratio at both 16:9 and 16:10 and it's still squashed looking. I've tried other display modes to no avail. Guess I'll have to pull my 4870 and get an Nvidea and see if I can't get a better res. Also the game has no Wheel and Pedal support.

In other words surround is stretched ! (though native.) And your graphics card's brand can do nothing about it ;)

2560x683 ('faux' triplewide)

No surprise since you're limited to 16:9 and TripleWide would need something like 43:9  Shouldn't be too hard to hack though ?

I can confirm the game supports 2560x1600. (And not local savegames...)

FlatOut : UC is mostly a revamped version of FlatOut 2. The main reason behind this game's release was to bring a FlatOut with "HD graphics" to next-gen consoles. Yes, HD. That is... 16:9. FlatOut 1 & 2 were Xbox games ported to the PC, too. So despite the game being clearly Vert- from 5:4 to 4:3 to widescreen, the "real", intended "height" is probably that of a 16:9 resolution. Pictures taken from reviews of the console versions, all 16:9, indicate (imho) that your car is actually too "far" in non-widescreen resolutions. The game is not Vert-, just Vert+ in non -widescreen. Actually, this might be the case for the former titles in the series, too. Darn next-gen ports !

FlatOut is an underrated series of nicely done arcade racing games, it'd be a shame if WS gamers were to turn their back on it because of a Vert- reputation ;) I'm not saying grading should change, but hopefully sneaky readers will take it with a grain of salt.

It's terrible im my own opinion, arcade looking/feeling is okay if it's done well, but this... I don't even know how to describe it... and so repetative it's not funny!

I enjoyed it for about 30 mins, then un-installed it Deleted!!!!!

I must say FlatOut 1 is by far my favorite, but still...
These games are a bit like crackers, you complete a race or two every now and then before moving to more "serious" titles, and it feels nice and fun; otherwise you have too much at a time, get sick and are disgusted for life
