There is no patch that I'm aware of. I took all those screenshots myself. I have the retail (boxed) version of Fallout 3 for the PC.

It has the same behavior in both the PC and 360 version.

Also, didn't you tweak your FOV or something? Maybe that's why yours doesn't seem right anymore?

I had old pics from before the change. I also undid the fov changes and compared them to my old pics.

Can you get PC comparison pics for the displays and lockpicking?


EDIT - Could someone else who has an unmodded version please post a 4:3 character creation pic as well? I would like to try and locate this discrepancy.

I have a hypothesis - maybe the 2D screens are in fact pixel based rather than FOV based. Tanuki - what happens if you keep default FOV setting, and do a comparison shot of 1024x768 vs. 1600x1200?

No. Pixel-based would mean the game has to support 800x600. The graphics would be tiny in 1600x1200.

Anyway I already checked.



It is the same as I have been saying. The graphic is Vert -. I have not seen anyone getting a pic like Dopefish without changing the fov. The 4:3 pic provided actually has a lower vertical fov than the 16:9 one. By that theory the game gains vertical area as it gets into wider aspect ratios. This would require a decreasing horizontal fov in wider aspect ratios which makes no sense.

Also, the 16:9 pic Dopefish shows is 1280x720 while the 4:3 pic is 1024x768. If it was pixel-based we would see more of the top and bottom of the graphic not less which is what is shown.

No. This is like Oblivion with the end of tutorial second chance character create screen.



They are all the same, background is Hor + and the graphic is Vert -.

Well, there certainly is an unexplained discrepancy here. Given that it's over a minor detail, and the game is prevented from being certified either way, until it does get explained, I think the best thing to do is to go with the shots taken by the DR writer Tanuki.

My desktop AR is 16:10.

Cranky is just in denial. :) Mine would be more accurate because they not only are unmodified from the PC, but the Xbox 360, as well. That kind of shows the intended behavior.

Tanuki, I'll try to get to the lock picking and terminal screens and post here later.

Okay, the only one that scales vertically is the lockpick screen. Everything else acted exactly the same between the PC and 360 version when it came to scaling.
