SAMSUNG 2253BW Black 22"

Looking to buy 3 of these monitors and TH2GO Digital with bezel management for Rfactor and other games. Does anyone know of this monitor and how they look and support TH2GO, i heard on startup you simply have to wait 60 seconds with warning that resolution is incompatable, but, after 60 seconds it works great. Is TH2GO pretty easy to setup? were is the best place to find and buy TH2GO in United States (florida i live) thanks all.

I have three 2253LW monitors, they're really nice. I imagine the BW would be a good choice too. You're correct on the warning, you can clear it with a button press if you want or just wait.

Newegg carries the TH2G, that's where I got mine.

Not sure if anyone reported back but with the 2253BW, the OSD warning not only goes away but it shows down the video signal! Therefore making the monitor useless.

Still looking for a solution to 5040x1050, all other lower res's seem fine.

I too have been looking to get the 2253BW (or 2053BW).

From Whirlpool > # 22" LCD for Gaming and Movie

... the 2253 used to hurt my eyes. I had to have the light on in the room otherwise my eyes would water after an hour or so of use.
My other half also commented on how it made her eyes hurt.

Was recommended by choice.com.au

From Anyone need a working TH2GO setup for a discount?
This setup works @ 5040 x 1050 resolution @ 57 mhz on all the games I play and its unbelievably beautiful ...

From Has abybody [sic] tested triple 1680 X 1050 with FSX ?
I have FSX working in 5040x1050x57Hz on My Samsung 2053BW

The againsts are quiet serious.

thorvald, can you expand on the nature of the video signal slow down? Could you be doing something wrong? Maybe the other two positive reporters put up with a slow signal, not knowing what they are missing? On other resolutions do you get any kind of eye strain?

Just a follow up to my issues, I was able to get it working but with the warning message still present.

Using the settings from this thread: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/9741

I only had to follow the Nvidia custom screen res. section under the heading "To actually Setup 5040x1050 57hz, do the following:".

This resulted in all three monitors getting the OSD, even the 226BW, but at least I can clear the OSD message and the video stays behind finally.

Here is what the moniotrs report from their OSD:

Digital
59.4kHz 56Hz PN
1680x1050

So at least it's changing the rate from the previous 50 or so kHz. Now if I can find the magic settings to push that 59.4kHz to 60.0kHz, maybe we can even get rid of the OSD.

This is with the latest 180.48 Nvidia drivers and 2.4.0.11 Matrox GXM (PowerDesk-SE).

At least the moniotrs work.

---

However this morning I had an issue with the monitors coming out of power save mode, they would not... I did a bunch of stuff including Ctrl-Alt-Del, pressing the source button and sacrificing some virgins but they finally came back on and displayed the warning message which I was able to remove by pressing the menu button.

Ah well, I'll get this figured out eventually.

Slow down? I don't have any slow down issue, just the OSD/no video issue which is partially fixed now).

Eye strain? none here, but I only use this for gaming. All my other computers that I do serious work on are all Macs :-)

Cheers

As I said in the previous post to help you out, I've managed to get the OSD message to not appear at all on my 226BW's. On system startup I do not get the message anymore and I do not have to clear anything.

This was done simply by entering the value 60 in the "GDI Refresh Rate" cell (where currently you have 57) when setting up the custom resolution and then setting up all the other values the same as for 5040x1050 @57Hz as in the original thread.

...Here is what the monitors report from their OSD:

Digital
59.4kHz 56Hz PN
1680x1050

Your refresh rate (as reported by the OSD) is actually 56Hz the 59.4kHz is something else maybe signal bandwidth, signal rate etc.??. With the custom resolution 5040x1050 @ 60Hz my monitors report through the OSD:

Digital
62.6kHz 59HZ PN
1680x1050

I was getting similar values to you when I had 5040 x 1050 @ 57Hz as my custom resolution.

regards,
Nigel

I could have sworn I did 60 but maybe my steps were backwards... tried it again and POOF, it works.

Thanks Nigel! I'm a happy camper now.

My 2253BW's how:

Digital
62.7kHz 59HZ NN
1680x1050

And my 226BW shows:

Digital
62.5kHz 59HZ NN
1680x1050

No message, very happy.

I'll post a sticky on this I think.

Thanks!
Tim

thorvald, whatever you meant by "with the 2253BW, the OSD warning not only goes away but it shows down the video signal! Therefore making the monitor useless. " ... it is good to read your problem is solved.

Now that the problem is solved: At least in gaming, your use for the monitors, do you find the image clear and beautiful? Is it superior to other LCDs you may have had in the past? Is it superior to the 226BW?

Can anyone help clear up ... which is the later model the 2243BW or the 2253BW?

Normally I'd expect higher model numbers to represent later models. However on the Australian Samsung website, the 2253BW is listed in the archive section, while the 2243BW is in the "LCD Monitor" section. (Observe the "Product Finder combo boxes as well as the breadcrumbs).
