Thanks for the update. I just picked up the plus license. I want to setup a similar setup for 3d vision surround. I will be waiting until End of June before purchasing most of the equipment but I have a few questions for you.

1. You mentioned that you purchased some projection fabric on ebay. Is this stuff as good as the fabric that you would find in a professional projection screen? Was it hard to install the fabric without waves or bumps?

2. It looks like you built a plywood backboard for the curved screen. How did you maintain a continuous curve in the plywood? How did you choose the optimum degree of curvature?

3. The guy at Immersview, Andy, Said that this version of NTHUSIM+ didn't have edge blending. Does your setup use edge blending or edge abutment? If you are using edge abutment was it very hard to get everything lined up?

4. What is it like running TV or movies on the curved screen?

Thanks for posting all of your pictures. They are motivation for what is possible in games today.

Did you pick up a 5870 Eyefinity 6 to get those 5 projectors going? Or are you satisfied with only 3?

eyefinity 6 will not run with NTHUSIM+ as it only supports 3 screens per pc.
you would need a sol7 lizence.

Wait, even though eyefinity is seen as one monitor?

ImmersaView will probably come out with something to address EyeFinity6 use. I see no reason why they wouldn't. There is no real difference code-wise between 2, 3 and 6 projectors in a horizontal span. What does become an issue though is standard gaming engines get really screwy with anything over 180 degrees. This is also why I only currently have a 180 degree setup, so I can maintain maximum compatibility with the largest cross sction of games.

Each projection has to be aligned to the screen and tuned in to match the edges as needed. That is why NTHUSIM must know how many projectors you're using, so you'll have that many areas to independantly allign.

Seriously though, once you get to the point you've purchased 6 projectors, you'll be pushing outside the realm of entheusiast gaming prices.

1. I've yet to use the eBay fiberglass material yet. I'm still using cheap $20 canvas dropcloths from Home Depot.

2. No backing to the screen. It's just drywall screwed to the bent plastic trim atached to the ceiling and floor.

3. There is no edge blending in NTHUSIM. It's one of the major differences between the Sol7 commercial product and the NTHUSIM hobby product. Only low light black movie scenes are a minor issue. You do get a roughly 1 pixel bright overlap in your pre-warp edges, but it's not a major issue imho.

4. TV and Blu-ray looks great. I can set the aspect ratio to 16:9 for tv and 2.35:1 or wider for wide format movies. 2 1024x768 projectors = 2048x768, which is very close to standard 2.35:1 Blu-ray content at 1920x800. TV and Blu-ray content is better suited for a 2 projector flat wall setup. While I can watch it on the curved screen, I have a second screen behind the curved one I can use for more tranitional flat wall projection.

The center screen always appears darker than the two outside screens. Is that a temporary problem you know about that will be corrected with the final screen material?

Also, how many women have offered to have your babies since you set this thing up? :hide

how can you stretch blueray across two displays?

i have read up on this and its not possible as far as i can tell. i have pwoer dvd 10 ultra 3d and it will only run BD discs on one screen and even then its a faff at my 1152p native res. as i move the image across the panel the flanking or alternate screens are blanked within the window the blueray is playing in.

if you have a work around id love to know as one of the main reasons i went eyefinity was to see some 2.35.1 or simular aspect ratio on my 3x screens.

cheers

He may rip his content to his media player if HDCP disallows this kind of control of your playback, which is completely legitimate.
